Jane Bryenton aka SparklyJane has been writing childrens' fiction since her retirement 12 years ago. This year she enrolled in some creative writing workshops to improve her skill at adult fiction. The workshop leader, Stephen Wheeler, part time lecturer in creative writing at University of Gloucestershire, encouraged his attendees to submit to writing competitions. The result was a first time entry shortlisting for the King Lear Prize (shortlist here) and also a longlisting success at Stroud Short Stories competition.
Jane says it's good to have her work recognised from such a vast number of entries - over 750 in the category and is encouraging to a mature writer to realise success can happen at any age.
