Poetry Together

Poetry Together is a national initiative to bring children and older people together to share the pleasure of poetry.
In 2023, two schools, Stow Primary and Powells School in Cirencester wrote poems on the theme of Happiness and then read them to audiences of older people.
The events were very happy occasions. The schools then sent their poems to Dukes Education Trust who are the national co-ordinators. Out of over 400 entries, both schools were shortlisted and each received book vouchers for £250 for their libraries.
Frank McMahon from Somewhere Else Writers in Cirencester was involved in the project. “ Going into the schools and helping the students to create their poems was a really rewarding and enhancing experience. The poems were full of colour, energy and imagination. This project will run this year and offers a great opportunity for Gloucestershire poets to be involved and encourage students to write and read poetry.”
