Gyles Brandreth, supported by HM The Queen, has written to all Lieutenancies which represent HM The King across the UK, inviting them to take part in an initiative that brings young and elderly people together through the joy of poetry.
The project invites a poem of 14 lines or fewer on the theme of 'Happiness' to be submitted by 24th November together with photographs showing young and elderly people sharing time together reading and reciting this and other poetry.
The Gloucestershire Lieutenancy has chosen to focus on contemporary authors and members of local writers groups to compile a selection of poems through a project group that includes Frank McMahon of Somewhere Else Writers, Cirencester. We hope to include schools, care homes and day centres across the County.
We are keen to encourage a wide range of contributions by mid-October, repesenting the breadth of the people who live in Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire.
