Gloucestershire-based author Joanna Campbell’s upcoming novel Instructions for the Working Day will be published on 31 August 2022.
The novel is a page-turning read looking at betrayal and freedom against the backdrop of past and present East Germany. It follows Neil Fischer who is determined to restore the village of Marschwald – his father’s former hometown, left to deteriorate for decades after the fall of the Berlin wall – to its former glory, regardless of the distrust and hostility of its residents. His only friend in Marschwald is Silke, who is coming to terms with her traumatic experiences during the Cold War and has recently uncovered a shocking truth. As tensions rise and truths emerge, all signs point to danger.
Instructions for the Working Day has received great response ahead of its publication: Costa Prize–Winner Claire Fuller called it a ‘mind-bending and enigmatic story’. Polari Prize – winning author Paul McVeigh praised the title as ‘a wonderful book’, and Man Booker Prize–shortlisted Alison Moore highlighted Joanna’s totally absorbing writing. Joanna Campbell’s debut novel Tying Down the Lion was praised by Jilly Cooper as ‘a brilliant and original first novel’, and her short stories have been awarded the London Short Story Prize, shortlisted for the international Rubery Book Award and longlisted for the Edge Hill Short Story Prize.
Joanna would be available for an interview or Q&A if of interest. For more information contact Daniela Ferrante, firstname.lastname@example.org 01865957790
