Nigel Messenger has published his fifth novel, Magnum Opus, set in England during the Middle Ages and in the Middle East during the early Crusades.
A fifteen-year-old boy, named Crispin, who was born with only one arm, is waiting to die. Wounded, starved, filthy and parched, he sinks into the depths of despair. Eventually a small Arab boy appears at the bars of his cell, wanting to help Crispin.
This is the start of an amazing adventure and dangerous journey, but above all a 40 year friendship with the man who would become the most famous leader of the Arab nations.
Many well-known characters play a part in Crispin’s adventures, including Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard The Lionheart, King John and Saladin.
Magnum Opus is a tale of loyalty and betrayal, rivalry and respect, unspeakable tragedy, true love and friendship and fierce enmity.
