Friday, 30 August, New Bohemians, Cheltenham
This is a very special, one-off event: a celebration of ‘Gallop’, the Selected Poems of Alison Brackenbury. It is being held and organised under the hospitable wing of the poet Jennie Farley’s New Bohemians who run an excellent series of friendly regular events with poetry and music in Charlton Kings, Cheltenham.
Alison will read and there will be discounted copies of ‘Gallop’ – but this is a party, not a sales drive! All friends are welcome…
There will be lovely food, savoury and sweet..
And we are delighted to confirm that Johnny Coppin will be playing and singing for us in both halves of the programme. Johnny is: folk musician, legend, BBC presenter, singer and songwriter, composer of some of the most haunting settings for poems which I know. His Christmas concerts in Cheltenham sell out each year. He rarely does solo shows in Cheltenham (his last one sold out in the middle of blizzards). I hope that even global warming won’t bring us blizzards in August, so do take this chance to hear Johnny! You can read all about his music, past and (vividly) present here:
And there is an Open Mic! So you can bring your own poem and sign up at the door,
