On Thursday 22 March 2018 Rona Laycock received a well-deserved award at the Cheltenham Arts Council Ceremony held at the Playhouse theatre. This was for her service as former Chair of the Gloucestershire Writers’ Network, highlighting her work over several years in running the annual competition and associated prizewinners’ event for The Times and Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival.


Gloucestershire's winning writers to read at Cheltenham Literature Festival

Twelve talented Gloucestershire writers and poets will read their work at the Gloucestershire Writers’ Network Competition annual prize-winners’ event at Cheltenham Literature Festival this October. The competition judges, former poet laureate of Birmingham, Roy McFarlane and University of Gloucestershire lecturer and writer, Dr. Lania Knight, will also read their own work.

Poetry prize-winner Frances March is from Stroud
Prose prize-winner Nastasya Parker is from Dursley
They have each won £200. They and the 10 runners-up will be published in a pamphlet, on sale at the event.

Poetry runners-up are:
Julie Wiltshire (Cam), Belinda Rimmer (Bishops Cleeve), Liz Carew (Cirencester), Iris Anne Lewis (Kempsford) and Jennie Farley (Cheltenham)

Prose runners-up are:
Judith Green (Cheltenham), Jeff Taylor (Eastleach), Val Ormrod (Alvington), Jim Moeller (Cirencester) and Cindy Moss (Tewkesbury).
